Frequently asked questions
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical facial resurfacing technique. Using a microcrystalline tip, the device polishes and exfoliates the top layer of tired, dull skin, while the vacuum suction unclogs your pores and increases blood flow. This process prompts an increased production of collagen and elastin, which results in plumper and more radiant looking skin.
With regular use, the Microdermabrasion will smooth out fine lines while minimising sun spots, scars and fine lines. It’s a great solution for those who have enlarged pores and blackheads, acne scars, dull-looking complexion or uneven skin tone.
The KALINNI Microdermabrasion kit can:
- Exfoliate dead skin cells
- Improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Minimise pigmentation and age spots
- Clear blackheads and congestion
- Minimise enlarged pores
- Reduce acne and acne scarring
- Improve the appearance of sun damaged skin or hyperpigmentation
- Smooth out uneven skin tone and texture
- Allow up to 50% deeper absorption for your skin care products.
Initially, we recommend you use your microdermabrasion tool once a week while your skin adjusts to it. Once you are comfortable, you can increase use to twice a week. Do not use the microdermabrasion kit daily… you are not allowing enough time for your skin to replenish and recover.
At home microdermabrasion is simple. All you need is 5 minutes once a week.
STEP 1 - Wash your face with a gentle cleanser. For best results, we recommend having a hot shower, steaming your face or using a hot face cloth on your face for 10 minutes before use. This will open your pores and prime it for treatment.
STEP 2 - Make sure your face is completely dry before use, then twist the tip off and make sure you have a fresh, black filter in place. Choose your tip then twist it on the base. Hold the power button for two seconds until the device starts. Press the power button again to increase the level of suction. We recommend starting out on level 1, and moving up to level 2 only after several uses.
STEP 3 - Using your free hand, pull the skin taut. Glide the tool over your skin along the natural lines of your face, using an upwards and outwards motion. Use smooth, swift strokes and avoid hovering or going over the one spot more than once. It can feel a little awkward at first, but you’ll get the hang of it quickly.
STEP 4 - Once you have treated your whole face, twist the tip off to remove the filter (which will now be filled with the impurities that have come out!) Replace the filter ready for the next use, and splash your face with cool water and pat dry.
STEP 5 - Use a nourishing serum and rich moisterizer to hydrate your skin and leave it feeling fresh and glowing. Give your skin at least 4-5 days to replenish and rejuvenate before using your kit again.
Regular exfoliation will buff away the dead skin cells closest to the surface, leaving the skin cleansed of dirt and excess oils. Microdermabrasion is a mechanical form of exfoliation, which not only removes these dead skill cells, but also stimulates the growth of a fresh, new layer. This process stimulates the production of collagen, which results in plumper and more radiant looking skin.
By encouraging regeneration of the epidermal cell structure, microdermabrasion will provide far superior results to a regular facial exfoliant.
You should only use the product on a clean, dry face. Please do not apply any products prior to using the device.
Once you have finished your treatment, we recommend you splash your face with cool water and pat dry. Finish by applying a hydrating serum and/ or rich, nourishing moisturiser. Do not use any products containing retinol, AHA, Glycolic acid, Benzoyl or any other active ingredients that will inflame or irritate your skin. Your skin is healing, so focus on hydration and drinking plenty of water.
Your skin will be more sensitive after, so stay out of sunlight, or apply SPF 50+.
If you have never had microdermabrasion, or other simple skin treatments before, your pores may detox. This is just your skin purging the debris that has been trapped below your dead skin cells. Any small breakouts shouldn’t linger, and these will stop after a handful of treatments.
Microdermabrasion is suitable for all skin types. However, it should not be used on open sores, and we recommend you do not use the microdermabrasion kit while pregnant.
At home microdermabrasion kits have come a long way in recent years and are now often as advanced and effective as their salon counterparts. Both at home and in clinic microdermabrasion treatments use the same principle and techniques to achieve results.
When you go to a clinic, you will be paying the high price for the expertise of a professional, who has done the treatment many times before and will be using an industrial grade microdermabrasion kit. But with a little time and effort at home, you can learn the technique and get that same fresh, facial feeling in the comfort of your own home... all for the price of one visit to the skin clinic.
Each KALINNI kit comes with:
- One microdermabrasion device
- Charging base and USB cable
- 50 filters (approximately one year’s worth)
Four interchangeable tips:
1. Diamond sensitive tip - for regular use
2. Diamond extraction tip - for spot treatment and blackhead removal
3. Diamond precision tip - for those small, hard to reach places
4. Diamond body tip - for use on the chest and back
Microdermabrasion should not hurt in any way. If you are experiencing any pain beyond slight irritation, stop the treatment and contact the KALINNI team. You can expect to have sensitive skin and slight redness for 24-48 hours post-treatment.
After just one use, your will feel more supple and smooth, and your complexion will look brighter and healthier. The best results however will come between 6-10 treatments, when you will start to see your skin tone evening out and the softening of fine lines.
Remember to take a before and after photo so you can compare!
We love our product, and we’re sure you will too. If for any reason you aren’t 100% satisfied, please contact the KALINNI team within 30 days to organise a return.
